These awards are only available to candidates who already hold a conditional place. Additional means-tested financial assistance is not available in these cases. Candidates will be invited for an assessment which will include aural tests as part of the selection process. Students may apply from any locality, as distance is not a determining factor in allocating places on the Award Scheme. As the award will be given to students showing musical potential, no previous instrumental tuition will be necessary in order to apply. However, eligible students should demonstrate a strong aptitude for music. Candidates who are successfully awarded a full Music Scholarship or the one Music Exhibition with a place are entitled to a conditional offer of a place in the school. Candidates must still pass the Common Entrance Examination for Public Schools (or do at least reasonably well in our King’s Scholarship examination) before any music award can be confirmed.

The awards vary from College to College but all include a small financial award and some support for music lessons. Since 1958 the Trust has worked to support young musicians of professional potential to achieve their aims by funding their educational fees and living expenses and also by subsidising concerts to ease the transition from student to professional life. Well-respected in the classical music world, the Trust continues to make a real and significant contribution to the advancement of talented young musicians. Each bursary will be tenable for one academic year and will provide up to ÂŁ120 per term towards the cost of music lessons.
